The Principal´s Pen

It is such a pleasure to wake up every morning looking forward to what the day brings and being enthusiastic to get work done.  I am privileged to have such varied tasks that extend  from lighting design and project work, to daily accounting, to taking care of our students.

I was challenged considerably when I prepared the content for our recent webinar to celebrate the UNESCO International Day of Light, which is celebrated every year on 16 May.  Much of the content related to information, equipment and products that are not traditionally within the scope of lighting. I was hard pressed studying as much as possible to learn all about the products, equipment or technologies that formed part of the content.  It was exciting and extremely interesting to learn new things. It proved once again that one is never too old to learn new things.

Our webinar to celebrate The UNESCO International Day of Lighting was well attended.  We ran a promotion offering an amazing discount to anyone who enrolled for any of the courses that we offer.  The response was fantastic.  We thank all past, present and new students, as well as our extended audience for celebrating this annual International Day of Light with BHA School of Lighting!

I recently extracted some interesting statistics.  It was way back in 2011 when I presented my first lighting workshop, since that first workshop until 2018, I presented 150 workshops throughout Southern Africa, thereafter I then transitioned into the digital presentation world.  Our lighting courses had gone online in 2013, so by 2019, new digital online presentation software was not difficult to master.

Since 2019, we have presented 120 webinars, 35 private lessons for students, 36 online meetings and 30 student support sessions. In addition, during the COVID Pandemic, we started the Enlightened Community Cares sessions.  No less than 25 of these weekly meetings took place, where many checked in to discuss some funny anecdotes, favourites wines, new movies or TV series, good books and much more.  It was found that it relieved the boredom and stress of that time.

Daniel has been especially busy with a very large project.  He has also been working hard to finalise many exceptional international speakers, all of whom are experts in their respective fields. We encourage you to check our website and read our newsletters to learn more about the webinars, more info about our webinars at www.bhaschooloflighting.co.za/webinars.

Congratulations to those students who have passed their First-Year examinations and have progressed to Second-Year.  You will be astounded at what you will learn during modules 19 to 29 of the course, which will lift your knowledge and ability to new heights.

Excitement is building as some of students work through Module 28 to start preparing for the Second-Year Final Examinations, and  we wish good luck to both First Year, and Second Year students, as they prepare for the final examinations for their respective years. It is an exciting time for the students and equally exciting for us to watch them progress, especially when they graduate.

With best regards, Philip Hammond
