02 Jul e-Learning course updates & more – July 2024 Newsletter
The Principal´s Pen
Oh my word, it is crazy to think that half the year has gone. In South Africa we have a Government of National Unity or GNU after the recent elections and the new executive of the GNU has now finally also been announced. Hopefully now that the dust has settled business will now start to gain momentum and projects will be released.
Last month we announced that we are making some very important changes to the course content of the Advanced Diploma in Illumination Engineering course. When one starts a project like this, it is only once started that one realises exactly how much work it involves. Every module that follows the removed module has to be completely edited and to be renumbered. When a single module that is no longer relevant, is removed, all subsequent modules must be edited and revised. But not to worry. They say that when the going gets tough, the tough get going.
The special application, Lighting Design for Offices e-Learning Course has been well received. The next three specialist short courses will be released are aimed at graduates of the Advanced Diploma course and professionals seeking to specialise in a lighting design application. The aim is to launch the new courses hopefully before my wife and I travel to Spain in late September.
We have been informed that our eagerly awaited accreditation will be sent to us by the end of July. You can be assured that you will all hear about it in our next newsletter. We expect our other courses to be accredited as well.
Our BHA School of Lighting YouTube Channel continues to expand. We already have six full Webinar videos and 3 short video clips on the channel and we encourage our readers to subscribe to our channel at the link here >>> https://www.youtube.com/@bhaschooloflighting. We are extremely grateful to Bea Carrion Rodriquez who expertly creates, edits and curates our YouTube content, if you’d like to work with her send us a message and we will share her contact details with you. You can also now watch our most recent upload SUPER ENERGY EFFICIENT LIGHTING below.
We are challenged from time to time in our design business, this time we were contacted by a family who are relocating from KZN Province to a small coastal resort town in the Western Cape. The challenge was to design the lighting for their new home to cater for three members of the family who suffer from Retinitis Pigmentosa and Usher’s Syndrome. They require very uniform light with no glare and without stark contrast. Both Daniel and I have spent many hours researching both Retinitis Pigmentosa and Usher’s Syndrome and we are now busy with the lighting design at present.
The important lesson for us highlighted the fact that no matter how much one knows about lighting as professionals and educators, there is always more to learn and know. I have stressed this to students and other professional over many years. Daniel and I never stop studying and learning.
We wish all students, both First and Second Year students well, as they prepare for the final examinations for their respective years. It is an exciting time for the students and equally exciting for us especially when they graduate.
As always, have a fantastic business month.
With best regards.
Philip Hammond
