29 Aug BHA Student Spotlight: Meet Abner Naidoo: The newly elected President of IESSA
Celebrating Abner Naidoo’s Appointment as IESSA President
BHA School of Lighting proudly congratulates Abner Naidoo of DNA Consulting Engineers, and who is a first-year student of the Advanced Diploma in Illumination Engineering course, on his appointment as President of the Illumination Engineering Society of South Africa (IESSA).
Abner steps into his role with a clear and purposeful vision. His primary goal is to elevate the standard of lighting practices across the country by aligning them with internationally recognised benchmarks. For Abner, this isn’t just about technical excellence—it’s about improving the everyday lives of South Africans through better, safer, and more sustainable lighting.
At the heart of his leadership philosophy is a strong emphasis on education and compliance. Abner believes that one of the most pressing challenges facing lighting professionals today is navigating the complex landscape of regulations and legislation. With sustainability and energy efficiency becoming central to design and engineering, staying informed and compliant is no longer optional—it’s essential. He stresses that proper lighting design, installation, and maintenance are critical not only for safety but also for reducing environmental impact.
Under Abner’s guidance, IESSA is poised to become an even more vital resource for professionals in the field. The organisation offers a range of support services designed to empower engineers, architects, and lighting designers. These include:
- Technical support through access to experts and up-to-date resources.
- Networking opportunities that connect members with industry leaders and potential collaborators.
- International representation to ensure South Africa remains engaged with global trends and innovations.
- Publications and guidelines that help professionals stay informed and aligned with best practices.
We are honoured to be part of Abner’s journey and look forward to the positive impact his leadership will bring to the lighting community in South Africa. We wish you all the best success Abner!
