Celebrating the Unesco International Day of Light – May 2023 Newsletter

On 16 May 2023 BHA School of Lighting celebrated the Unesco International Day of Light by hosting a webinar titled A CELEBRATION OF LIGHT, which was presented by Panos Ioannidis from Greece, a lighting designer of international acclaim, as well as the founder of Lighting Design Mag.

Panos Ioannidis is based in Athens, Greece, but a global citizen since 1995. When he finished his university studies he was lucky enough to have a wise brother, Dimitris, who was starting a business in something so new and so exciting for Panos – Architectural Lighting. They were very fortunate but also very competitive and innovative to see their small company become a leader in the Greek Market and be involved in many major projects such as the Acropolis museum and Stavros Niarchos foundation as examples. They worked with the best architects and designers, trying always to deliver a lighting scheme better than what they promised. After a few very difficult years with the economic crisis in Greece, Panos found himself working in the Middle East in 2014.

During the pandemic Panos founded Lighting Design Mag, and also created Instagram, Facebook and Linkedin pages dedicated to the best Lighting Designers from all over the world. He collects and posts the best projects he can discover, of which 75% of them are architectural facade projects with at most times dynamic lighting schemes.

Panos took us on a journey of discovery into the world of incredible lighting designs and showcased beautiful projects from around the world to celebrate the International Day of Light with the BHA School of Lighting enLightened Community. We would like to thank Panos for his insightful contribution to BHA School of Lighting.

We highly recommend that you visit Lighting Design Mag to explore the wonderful world of lighting design at these links:

The Principal´s Pen

Life is thrilling in so many ways. For the highs and the lows and all that is in between, we must be grateful.

2023 Started well, but has since continued to be an amazing year so far.  As a senior citizen at over 70 ears of age, I enjoy every moment of the day, each special moment working, being challenged by exciting projects, being part of the excellent growth of BHA School oi Lighting and for celebrating each time BHA Lighting and Consulting receives new commissions to do the lighting design for projects within South Africa and so much further afield than we ever imagined would be possible.

April has been the month of international interest in our courses on a large scale.  Our courses are now internationally known for the quality of the content, the excellence of our online system making it the best e-learning system in the world and our reputation for the very high level of support that we provide to our enrolled students.  We expect to make an announcement about the agreements that we have concluded in the world in the June edition o the newsletter.

The excitement does not stop.

Early in April, I was interviewed by Martin Klaasen of the VLDC Team, VLDC being the Virtual Lighting Design Community, in Australia.  When the interview is launched on the various social media channels, we will publish the link for those interested to listen and watch.  Martin Klaasen is the owner of Klaasen Lighting Design in Perth, Australia.

On 18 April, I was interviewed by Mia Louw for the Kyknet Channel program called Prontuit on the subject of Light Pollution.  I was one of a number of experts that were interviewed. Prontuit investigates stories through conversation, after they are news. Presenter Kabous Meiring makes sure Prontuit resonates with a wide spectrum of South Africans. Tune in for the live broadcast on Tuesday evening 16 May 2023 at 21:00.  This topic will coincidentally be broadcast on the International Day of Light.  Other specialists will also express their views both scientific and personal during the screening. Prontuit means Bluntly in English.

We have many students from different parts of India.  The population of India is expected to surpass China as the most populace place in the world.  Based on the projections, India’s population by mid-year will reach 1.4286 billion, compared to China’s 1.4257 billion.

On 20 April 2023 we presented our webinar entitled “Episode 4/23: Dialux Evo versus Relux Desktop 2023 – A factual comparison by experts and me” during which the features of each software suite were compared. We recently received a very encouraging email from Fabio Tamborrini, the Chief Sales Officer for Relux Informatik AG in Switzerland in which he informed me that they are working on man new enhancements and features such as superior visualizations, and additional 3D models/objects for their library in the software.  There will also be more exciting news to come which will be more reasons for Relux Desktop being the leading lighting design software.  Some of the enhancements are amazing, however, I am not at liberty to share them with you yet.  That is the prerogative of Relux to announce.  Fabio said: “Thank you very much for the recording. It was very insightful and a great promotion for our software. It seems you have many people working with AGI32 as well. I’m not sure if you are aware, but in Relux Desktop we also have the US standards. As you can see, we are working on numerous new projects to improve the use of ReluxDesktop. Again, thank you very much for your support.”

If you have not experienced the wonders of Relux Desktop, it’s time to enroll for the BHA School of Lighting BHASL018C20: Relux Desktop Lighting Design Software course.

Finally, we will soon launch the first of our short courses in Arabic.  It is a mammoth and painstakingly slow task.

I wish you all great business and good health.

With best regards
Philip
