The BHA School of Lighting was created by Philip Hammond, MD and founder of leading Illumination Engineering practice, BHA Lighting. He is also an authority on LED lighting technology in South Africa.
Expertise and experience
A qualified professional lighting engineer, Philip was trained by Thorn EMI Lighting (South Africa) (Pty) Ltd in 1976 and 1977 through London Southbank University (UK) and graduated Cum Laude as B Illum Eng. With over 48 years industry experience, he is a regular contributor to lighting and energy related publications.
Philip developed a series of LED Lighting Technology and Applications Workshops which are accredited and validated by the South African Institute of Architects (SAIA) and Consulting Engineers South Africa (CESA), a voluntary institution of the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA). Well over 150 successful workshops have been presented throughout South Africa, Namibia and Botswana. The accreditation entitles attendees to claim Continued Professional Development (CPD) credits.
Philip is a member of the Illumination Engineering Society of South Africa (IESSA). He served as the Cape Town branch Chairman for two years, and prior to that was branch development and training portfolio member. He is also a member of The Institution of Lighting Professionals (United Kingdom). He recently had membership of the International Association of Lighting Designers (IALD) (USA) accorded as Educator Member, IALD.
Philip is ably assisted by one of his graduates, Robby Cohen a qualified optometrist and now also a qualified Illumination Engineer. Robby specifically gives devoted attention to first year students of the Advanced Diploma of Illumination Engineering course.
