The Principal´s Pen
By the time that you read this, the elections being held in South Africa will be behind us, although the results may only be known in early June 2024. Hopefully, business will be more settled, projects will be released, and normality will prevail.
We are making some very important changes to the course content of the Advanced Diploma in Illumination Engineering course. Some modules are being revised for relevance in the current times of lighting and for greater relevance, whilst one module will be removed because it is no longer relevant and addresses old technology. Another two modules are being combined because the content is directly linked. This will also create greater awareness of the problems that can result from poor lighting designs.
As the year progresses, further short specialist courses will be added to our course offerings. The special courses which already include the Lighting Design for Offices course are aimed at professionals who wish to gain knowledge for specialist lighting applications. Our new Emergency Lighting Course will also be released on 15 June 2024. It is being completely updated with the latest amendments in IS 3217 and all other applicable documents.
We look forward to deliver a series of Live Lectures for the Marketing Home Group in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, more specifically with Lighting Stores Illus, for a select group of their staff.
Daniel and I recently presented a lecture to BMS College of Architecture in Bangalore, India in collaboration with Women in Lighting (WIL), India organiser, Priyanka Praful. Priyanka is an architect and BHA School of Lighting student. It was a privilege to collaborate with WIL, India. We presented on lighting basics, the importance of good lighting design and the lighting design process. The presentation was live streamed in an auditorium packed full of architecture students and they were able to interact with us and pose questions at the end.
We eagerly await our Advanced Diploma Course accreditation from the European Agency for Higher Education Accreditation (EAHEA) for online higher education courses specifically. We expect to receive during the course of June.
